Question 1

How do I crochet a plain amigurumi ball that comes out round?

Accepted Answer

Start with 6 sc in a magic ring, increase by 6 every round to 30 stitches, work four plain rounds, then decrease by 6 every round back to 12 and gather. The four plain rounds are what makes it a ball instead of a squashed sphere.

Question 2

How do I crochet an amigurumi bunny whose ears stand up?

Accepted Answer

Work the ears flat and narrow — 6 stitches wide for eight rounds with no increases — and leave them unstuffed except for the bottom third. Stuffed ears flop because the stuffing adds weight without adding stiffness.

Question 3

How do I crochet the classic granny square without wobbly corners?

Accepted Answer

Three double crochets per group, two chains between groups, and chain 2 at each corner. Working the corner chain as two rather than three is what keeps the corners square instead of flaring outward.

Question 4

How do I crochet a market bag that stretches but does not sag to the ground?

Accepted Answer

Work a solid cotton base, then switch to a chain-3 mesh with a single crochet in each space, and add a non-stretching handle worked in sc rather than chain. The solid base and the sc handle are what stop the bag from becoming a tube of string.
